Shape Field Chair

This thing is so sick. Great design, great execution of design, and practical, and I must say I love the logo design. Here is what their Kickstarter has to say:

“THE DESIGN – Reduced, reliable and comfortable. These are the attributes we strove for as we designed and developed the Field Chair.

It is reduced—weighing in at under 4 pounds even with the #8 duck heavyweight waterproof canvas. The parts have been minimized to the essentials: the hinges are made from the same part repeated and held together with a military strength axle. The bent tubular legs are also identical.

It is reliable—we found the right balance of strength and flexibility in the hinges and legs. The materials and finishes have all been chosen to wear well as they are used in the great outdoors. The legs and hinges will be hard anodized to resist scratching and dings. The waxed canvas will resist rain, withstand abrasion and patina nicely over time.

It is comfortable—the most important feature of a chair, surprisingly not always the top priority of chair manufacturers. The Field Chair flexes to a comfortable angle when sat in but still provides plenty of support, it is wide and sits low to the ground—all desirable traits for a relaxed outdoor experience.”

Shoot The Skies – 365

This is my buddy Tanner. He is one of the most motivated and kind hearted people I’ve met, and he also happens to be a fantastic photography. This is his project and his description below:

“My life was changed forever in 2012 when a Roma Gypsy man in Sofia Bulgaria offered to sell me his 6 month old baby for 50 dollars, simply because I said he was beautiful.

That moment inspired me to do something. In 2013 I released a photograph every single day with one goal in mind: To publish this book, a 365-day photo journal created to abolish human trafficking. www.shoottheskies.com

In addition to being a beautiful display piece to inspire awareness and conversation, 100% of the profits from this book will go The A21 Campaign.”

Please take a moment to watch the video and share. If you can purchase a book. This is such a great cause and he has given up well over a year of his life dedicated to making this possible. Let’s support him and help those victims.

Notes on Blindness

Capture

“I should also say, that this is an experience of beauty… Instead of being isolated, cut off, pre-occupied internally, you are presented with a world. You’re related to a world. You’re addressed by a world. Why should this experience strike one as being beautiful? Cognition is beautiful. It’s beautiful to know.”

Notes on Blindness (click to watch the video) is a op doc featuring the details of what losing your sight is like.

“In the summer of 1983, following a decade of steady deterioration, writer and theologian John Hull lost all traces of light sensation. For three years he kept a diary on audiocassette – over sixteen hours in total – a unique and insightful meditation on memory, consciousness and perception.

The diaries were published in 1991 and met with wide critical acclaim. The neurologist Oliver Sacks described the work as “the most extraordinary, precise, deep and beautiful account of blindness I have ever read. It is, to my mind, a masterpiece”.

INTO DARKNESS uses John’s original recordings, never before heard in public, brought to life by striking cinematography, verbatim reconstructions and creative use of archive footage. The result is a unique and cinematic amalgamation of documentary and drama, taking the viewer into the strange and insular world of blindness.” Seen originally on NYTIMES. The filmmakers, Peter Middleton and James Spinney, are also looking to make a full length of this.

Beginners

Picture 2 Quirky sad artist meets quirky sad actress and they fall in love – how could I not love this movie.  However there is so much more to it that really drew me in.  The use of photographs and narrative comparing love today to love of the past, the flashbacks, the music, the overall indie-ness and the dog.  Oh yes the dog. Such a small role, but such a great one!  They gave him the thoughts and emotions that we feel, and conveyed it through caption.  This is one movie you should watch.  Enjoy! Picture 1Picture 3 Picture 4 Picture 5 Picture 7 There was a deeper connection that I felt to this movie and story through the captions of this cute lil dog. I can relate. Those were my thoughts and emotions. Oh how quickly I’d get swept away by the feeling of love, but not the choice of love. I used to seek my fulfillment totally from relationships (see first image) and then if things went well, I would most certainly hope that feeling lasted. Who wouldn’t?  The only problem is, and this is clearly displayed in this movie, we are broken. We cannot remain fully happy with someone if our happiness is based on them making us happy…We cannot view relationships with the same commercial mindset that we have come to view the world.  I’ll do this as long as I benefit from it, and when those benefits end, “I’m out.” No that cannot be how we live and love.  We must derive our love and happiness from something greater. That greater thing is an overflow of love and happiness from the grace, mercy and love of Jesus Christ. Only then are we free to choose to love someone without the worry that they’ll might not fully delight us (they will fail us – we will fail them), in fact we free them and ourselves from the heavy burden.

You can view a wonderful quote from the movie – here. I suggest reading it with the music I wrote playing.

TAKE A LOAD OFF

While I don’t want to give John too much shine time, I can’t help but post this amazing photo that Andy from Fyxo took while he was in LA. The whole photo-set is so good, but this one is money. The lighting, flare, and realness of facial expression are perfect. A captured moment of time.
